Improving Board Effectiveness (2 days)

Tuesdays 18th June & 2nd July – you must attend BOTH sessions.
Training sessions for DDPOs who want to improve the effectiveness of their Boards and the relationship between Boards and staff team.

This is a two-day training course, designed to be attended by a trustee (ideally the Chair) and the chief operating officer of the organisation (eg CEO or overall organisation manager).

The first day is face to face and will cover roles and responsibilities of the Board, boundaries of roles between trustees and staff, developing positive relationships between the Board and staff, good practice in trustee and Board development.

The second day will be online.
The morning will introduce tools for auditing performance and skills of the Board and individual trustees, good practice in valuing and using lived as well as work experience, and tools for action planning and improving effectiveness

The second half of the day will be a problem-solving surgery giving you the chance to discuss real life Board challenges with the trainer (who has both CEO and Trustee experience) and other guest DDPO trustees who will be contribute their ideas and suggestions from long term experience within their roles.

Who is the training for:

Bookings for this training are open to Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisations (DDPOs). It is designed to be attended by both your CEO (or other chief operating manager) and one of your trustees (ideally your Chair)

The aims of the training are to help you:

  • To help you and your Board understand:
  • Board and trustee roles and responsibilities
  • Boundaries of roles between trustees and staff
  • How to develop positive and supportive relationships between the Board and staff team (particularly the chief operating manager)
  • Good practice in trustee and Board development
  • Confident use of tools for auditing trustee skills, Board effectiveness, and for action planning for improved Board performance
  • How to value and effectively use Trustee experience and skills (from both work and lived experience)
