What is a DDPO?

Inclusion London supports Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisations (DDPOs) in London. These organisations are run by and for Deaf and Disabled people.

DDPOs grew out of the Disabled People’s rights movement and have played a pivotal role in promoting and progressing equality for Deaf and Disabled people.

There are an estimated 1.2 million Deaf and Disabled people in London and DDPOs provide essential support to this section of the community. DDPOs protect and uphold Disabled people’s rights, campaign for equality and inclusion and provide a range of peer-led accessible services that support Disabled people to access services and entitlements, challenge discrimination and exclusion and have choice, control and independence.

An organisation is a DDPO if:

  1. Their Management Committee or Board has at least 75% of representation from Deaf and Disabled people and;
  2. At least 50% of their paid staff team are Deaf or Disabled people with representation at all levels of the organisation and;
  3. They provide services for or work on behalf of Deaf and Disabled people.
