Funding for Local Welfare Assistance Schemes 2015 -2016: Inclusion London’s response to the consultation

Disabled people are bearing the brunt of the government’s austerity measures and are facing poverty, unable to pay for food, fuel and rental, so are facing eviction and going hungry due to the Coalition government’s austerity measures.

The Welfare Assistance Fund provides a crucial support at a time of crisis. The need for the fund is likely to increase in the near future, so this is not the time to cease government funding for the scheme and we strongly recommend that the government continues to provide approximately £170 million a year specifically for the local Welfare Assistance Fund schemes.
