The government is consulting on changes to the Work Capability Assessment

Inclusion London is very concerned about the impact these proposals could have. We are organising a meeting for London DDPOs to discuss this consultation and plan collective action.

The government said in March that they would scrap the Work Capability Assessment after the next General Election. But they also want to move quicker to limit the number of people who qualify for higher benefits.

They published a consultation document outlining their proposals. The consultation is here, along with versions in alternative formats: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/work-capability-assessment-activities-and-descriptors

Key changes the government wants to make are to:

Limit the number of people who qualify under “significant risk” criterium;

And change the following activities:

  • Mobilising
  • The absence or loss of bowel/bladder control
  • Coping with social engagement
  • Getting about
