Disability Law Service free webinar for DDPO staff giving housing advice
Online zoom webinar provided by Disability Law Service.
13th May 2021 at 10.00am to 1.00pm (3 hours including a break).
Please note: maximum 20 places, these will initially be offered to people who are part of the SVRR project.
This training will be in two parts, covering:
- Disrepair – including looking at Landlord and Tenant responsibilities and the Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation Act) 2008
- Protection from harassment – including looking at the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 and Injunctions (in the context of housing)
- Anti-social behaviour issues
- Aids and adaptations in the home
- Disabled Facilities Grants
This will include looking at what aids and adaptations can be applied for in the home to aid independence and safety. Training will cover how to appeal decisions and how to present evidence for applications.
Who is the training for?
Any adviser in a DDPO who has some basic experience of giving housing advice and wants to learn more about the specific issues outlined above.
What is a DDPO?
Please note this is an event for Deaf and Disabled People Organisations (DDPOs). DDPOs are organisations that are run and controlled by Deaf/Disabled people, with Deaf/Disabled people representing at least 75% of Trustees and over 50% of paid staff.
About the trainer
This training will be given by Ola Akinyode Housing Solicitor and Priya Bahri Solicitor at the Disability Law Service.
