This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles, processes and duties inherent in the homelessness legislation. Delegates will develop a systematic approach to homelessness law, become familiar with the Homelessness Code of Guidance for local authorities and consider the main principles relating to housing allocations. The course incorporates all the changes brought in by the Homelessness Reduction Act.
Who the course is aimed at:
This course is suitable for individuals who deliver advice within a DDPO.
No prior knowledge of housing legislation is needed. Please note, participants must commit to attending both days of training.
DDPOs can book up to 2 named staff on each course.
The course covers:
- Policy options for allocations and homelessness legislation
- Legislation and the Homelessness Code of Guidance
- Duty to make enquiries
- The Homelessness Reduction Act
- Housing options and prevention of homelessness
- Key elements of the basic definition sections of the legislation
- Assessing eligibility, homelessness, priority need, intentional homelessness and local connection
- Important case law
- Review and appeal rights
- Allocation of housing.
This course is delivered by:
Training takes place at Inclusion London’s wheelchair accessible offices with blue badge parking available on request. Please inform us of any additional access needs at least 2 weeks in advance of the training or event.
Strengthening Voices, Realising Rights
Inclusion London has been funded by Trust for London to work intensively with targeted DDPOs as part of the Strengthening Voices, Realising Rights programme. This includes the provision of specialized training.
When possible, should there be any spare places we are committed to offering these on a first come, first served basis to other DDPOs. If you meet the participant criteria, we would encourage you to sign up as soon as possible, to secure a place.
