Disability Equality Training for DDPOs
20 September 2022, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Via Zoom

This Disability Equality Training (DET) is essential training for anyone working or volunteering within the Deaf and Disabled People’s (DDPO) sector. In the session we look at the basic principles of Disability Equality and the Social Model of disability as the root of providing a ‘rights and removing barriers’ approach to your work.

Topics include:

  • How different ways of looking at disability affect Disabled people and how we are treated
  • The Social Model of Disability and why it works
  • What the Law says
  • Understanding different types of barriers and access needs
  • Inclusive language and why it is important

Understanding these key principles is essential for working effectively within Deaf and Disabled people’s organisations.

Who is the training for?

This session is for DDPOs and is ideal for new members of staff or volunteers, or existing members of staff who wish to revisit the basic principles.

What is a DDPO?

Please note this is an event for Deaf and Disabled People Organisations (DDPOs). DDPOs are organisations that are run and controlled by Deaf/Disabled people, with Deaf/Disabled people representing at least 75% of Trustees and over 50% of paid staff.
