Disability Equality Training for Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisations

This session is only for DDPOs which are part of the Propel and SVRR Advice Projects. Inclusion London will be running more Disability Equality Training in the coming months. Please check back if you are interested but are not part of these projects.

In the session, we will look at the basic principles of Disability Equality and the Social Model of disability to support you to provide a ‘rights and removing barriers’ approach in your work

Who is this training for?:

Places are only open to staff from the Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisations (DDPOs)  which are part of the Propel or SVRR Advice projects.

This session is designed for new members of staff in the above projects, or existing members of staff who wish to revisit the basic principles.

Inclusion London will be running more Disability Equality Training sessions for DDPOs in the coming months, so please check back if you are interested but are not part of these projects.

Topics include:

  • How different ways of looking at disability affect Disabled people and how we are treated.
  • The Social Model of Disability and why it works.
  • What the law says.
  • Understanding different types of barriers and access needs.
  • Inclusive language and why it is important.
  • Understanding these key principles is essential for working effectively within Deaf and Disabled people’s organisations.

Training delivered by:

Tanvi Vyas, an open and dynamic trainer who is passionate about improving access and inclusion. She has a strong background in policy and campaigns as well as tackling access to transport and the public realm via different accessibility panels. Tanvi is a Trustee for Muscular Dystrophy UK.

After the session, you will be given a link to a feedback form. Please complete it on the day if possible. Your feedback is required so that we can monitor and develop our training offer and to report to our funders.

What is a DDPO?

Deaf and Disabled People Organisations (DDPOs) are organisations that are run and controlled by Deaf/Disabled people, with Deaf/Disabled people representing at least 75% of Trustees and over 50% of paid staff.

Inclusion London is working in partnership with 5 other DDPOs led by Inclusion Barnet on a Propel Advice Project as part of the London Funders’ Propel Initiative.
