Lived Experience Leadership:

Human Centred / User-centred Service Design Toolkits

Design thinking is a human-centred approach to innovation. It aims to bring together the needs of people, the possibilities for solutions that are economically or practically viable, and what is needed for business success.

It can be used to transform the way organisations develop services, strategy, systems and processes, as well as products. You don’t have to be trained in design to use this approach. It is about using creative tools to address challenges.

We have been using human centred design approaches within our leadership programme at Inclusion London, to design and improve the programme itself. In addition our leaders are learning how to use design thinking to lead change within their organisations.

Here are some resources to help you understand and use design thinking approaches:

Design Kit

You can download a field guide to human centred design- a step by step guide to solving problems like a designer. There are also detailed descriptions of methods on the site with explanations of resources needed, time they will take and detailed delivery plans. You can read case studies to find out about design thinking in action

Design Thinking Bootleg

You can download a set of tools and methods for design, with tangible examples of how you can take action

Design Thinking for Educators

This site was built for educators, but it has an easy to use toolkit with methods that can be easily adapted for use in other settings.

Design Sprint Kit
