Inclusion London’s DLA reform response
Inclusion London strongly opposes the government’s proposals to reform DLA, which would condemn many more disabled people living in poverty.

The proposals have seriously flawed assumptions that ignore the fact that Disabled people are twice as likely to live in poverty, face barriers which prevent access to education and employment and that compared with the total number of Disabled people in the UK the take up of DLA is low.
The proposal will cut the number of claimants by 20%, narrow the eligibility and introduce a face to face assessment with a health professional. In addition those living in residential homes will have their mobility component cut.
DLA provides a vital contribution towards the costs of disability which helps to overcome the barriers to independence, without it many Disabled people will be condemned to poverty.
