We support Deaf and disabled victims of any form of hate crime (disability, racist, homophobic, transphobic, islamophobic or anti-semitic hate crime) in Newham and Waltham Forest. In Waltham Forest, we also run a project to support disabled victims of targeted harassment by gangs or other groups of people who take over the disabled person’s home and exploit them (‘mate crime/cuckooing’).

We offer victims/survivors:

Stay Safe East has a policy and change role; as an active member of the Metropolitan Police (MPS) Hate Crime Diamond Group and its disability and LGBT working groups; and by helping the MPS to develop “Disability Hate Crime Matters”. Transport for All

Transport for All runs an information and advice Helpline five days a week run by Disabled and older staff and volunteers, benefiting Disabled and older Londoners.  We support people on all issues relating to accessing and travelling on public and private transport.  Typical advice given is on journey planning, applying for blue badges, freedom passes etc and patient transport.  We also act as advocates in representing clients in making complaints and take up the worst issues as campaigns.  Our website also gives up to date travel information.  Ten percent of our Helpline calls each year relate to reports of hate crime, of varying levels of seriousness.  At present, we provide a listening ear, record people’s complaint, and signpost to either the police or local victim support organisations.
