Inclusion London’s evidence to the Independent Commission on Freedom of Information

It is vital in a democratic society that public bodies should be accountable, the use of Freedom of Information Act plays a vital role in this and we oppose any move to weaken the Act.

The balance of power between the state and the individual or group of individuals such as Deaf and Disabled people is already heavily in favour of public bodies. It would be lamentable if this balance of power is weakened further through any change to the FOI Act.  The FOI Act could save public money through avoiding legal action when members of civil society consider there has been a legislative breach but dependent on obtaining otherwise undisclosed information.
