Access to Money inquiry – Inclusion London’s evidence

Our evidence to Access to Money, the London Assembly Economy Committee’s investigation into the Mayor’s role in promoting and supporting financial inclusion in London.

Inclusion London provided evidence to Access to Money, the London Assembly Economy Committee’s investigation into the Mayor’s role in promoting and supporting financial inclusion in London.

Research needs to be commissioned in order to find the full extent of financial exclusion and its causes amongst Deaf and Disabled people in London.  However, we provided evidence of the key drivers of financial exclusion we are aware of, which include:

  1. The impact of welfare reform since 2010 on Deaf and Disabled people, which has resulted in debt and bankruptcy so banking services cannot be accessed or access is curtailed.
  2. Lack of access to the internet so shopping around for the best deals regarding goods and services is not possible.
  3. Inaccessible banking/financial services
  4. Punitive bank charges
  5. Advocacy and support not permissible by banks or not available.
