The Coronavirus Bill becomes Law

The provisions in the Bill relating to social care, support for children with Special Educational needs and detentions and treatment under the Mental Health Act were not amended

This is a quick update on the Coronavirus Bill that unfortunately became law earlier this week.

Unfortunately the provisions in the Bill relating to social care, support for children with Special Educational needs and detentions and treatment under the Mental Health Act were not amended and have become law.  However, through our campaigning together we were able to raise the profile of these issues amongst Parliamentarians and the media. The government in response gave reassurance that these measures will be implemented only in critical situations as a last resort.

As far as we understand, all legal provisions guaranteeing our rights still apply, this will be the case until the Secretary of State decides to switch them off. We will continue campaigning to ensure this does not happen.

Thank you to everyone who supported our campaign.

You can find out more about our campaign and the concerns we raised here.

We will shortly publish more detailed information about the Act and the next steps we can all take to protect our rights and monitor the situation.
