Mike Oliver memorial event

An event to celebrate the life and work of Mike Oliver will take place on Saturday 19 October 2019 in Canterbury.

A memorial event is being organised to celebrate the life and work of Mike Oliver who died in March 2019. Mike was key in developing the  Social Model of Disability which had a profound effect on thousands of Disabled People, both in the UK and across the world. The Social Model has had a major impact on advancing the fight for full inclusion.

The event will be honouring Mike in the form of mini-lectures, photographs and a number of heartfelt personal speeches. Confirmed speakers at the event include Baroness Jane Campbell, Colin Barnes, Barbara Lisicki, Len Barton and Michele Moore.

Following a successful crowdfunding appeal, the date for the event is now confirmed as  Saturday 19th October 2019 at the University of Canterbury in Kent. The event starts at 12.15 pm when there will be lunch and entertainment, with the speeches starting at 1.45 pm. The event should finish around 4.30 pm.
