Anne Novis, Chair Inclusion London and Independent Advisor to the Metropolitan Police comments on the recent figures released by government, which reveal an increase in hate crime:

‘We know disability hate crime has been increasing year on year, yet only a small percentage is reported to the police or recognised by justice professionals.

Whilst some of the increase is due to the work we and our organisations are doing to raise awareness of DHC and encouraging reporting to police, most is missed due to lack of knowledge about what disability hate crime is.

Labelling such experiences as ‘vulnerable adult abuse’ does a disservice to the impact of hate crime on us, leads to injustice, and inequality of justice.’
