The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is consulting on their next strategic plan. Here are some details of the strategic plan and how you can send in your views.

EHRC Strategic Plan

EHRC wants to create a society where:

  • the conditions for a rights-respecting society are in place and secure
  • the rights of people in vulnerable situations are defended
  • everyone has a fair chance to thrive.

Below are EHRC’s Strategic goals and priority aims from the draft Strategic plan:

 Strategic Goal 1: To advance the conditions for a more equal and rights-respecting society

Priority Aim 1: People are better able to seek redress when they are wronged and people have a fair trial in the criminal justice system

Priority Aim 2: Ways to tackle prejudice are better understood and good relations are promoted, particularly through the education system

Priority Aim 3: New technologies and digital services promote equality

 Strategic Goal 2: To remove the barriers to opportunity, so that people’s life chances are transformed

Priority Aim 4: Public transport and the built environment are accessible to disabled and older people so as to support their economic and social inclusion

Priority Aim 5: Access to essential public services is improved for particularly disadvantaged groups

Priority Aim 6:People in Britain have equal access to the labour market and are treated fairly at work

Priority Aim 7 The social security system is fair and operates without discrimination

Strategic Goal 3: To protect the rights of people in the most vulnerable situations 

Priority Aim 8: Improved rules governing entry into detention and conditions in institutions

Priority Aim 9: Public bodies with responsibility for addressing violence against women and girls comply with equality and human rights requirements.
